"Truly a life saver. The barbell came and genuinely was the exact perfect size to allow me to bench and squat in my narrow gym." — Hezzy, Verified Buyer

The Short Rackable Barbell is 17 inches shorter than a standard Olympic bar — built for racks that a 7-footer simply won't fit. If your inside width is under 49" / 124.5 cm, this is your bar.

  • Fits where a 7-footer won't → At 69" / 175 cm total length, it racks cleanly in any power rack up to 49" / 124.5 cm inside width. No shimming, no wedging, no "close enough."
  • Feels like a real bar → Because it is one. Dual IPF + IWF knurl marks, center knurl, and light-pressure grip — the same landmarks pros train with, no shortcuts.
  • Lighter starting point → At 29 lbs / 13 kg, it's lighter than a standard 45 lb / 20 kg Olympic bar (great for newer lifters building up, or deload days when your ego needs a break).
  • Clean end to end → Black zinc shaft meets black zinc sleeves — matched finish, no mismatched hardware look. It just looks right on the rack.
  • Loads like a full bar → 7-7/8" / 200 mm of loadable sleeve per side, plus a 900lb (408kg) capacity.
  • Built to last → Limited Lifetime warranty on the frame. We stand behind it.

Why a Short Rackable Barbell?

Because not every rack was built for a 7-foot bar — and not every gym has the width to match.

  • Compact racks, fully functional → Squat cages, half racks, and narrow power racks finally get a barbell that was actually designed for them.
  • No wasted space → Shorter bar means the sleeves don't stick out past your uprights. Cleaner setup, safer lift-off.
  • Pro design, short format → IPF and IWF knurl marks aren't just for competition floors. They're there so your hands are always exactly where they should be.
  • One bar, all the big lifts → Squats, bench, deadlifts, overhead press — everything you'd do with a standard bar, just sized for your actual setup.

If your rack fits, this bar belongs in it.

Product Features

  • 17" (43 CM) SHORTER. STILL RACKABLE.

Sometimes, the best does come in small packages. Get 69" / 175 cm of Olympic bar. Shaves off 17"/43 cm while still fitting any power rack up to 49" wide. That includes 2.3" (60mm) racks, Hydra, and Manticore (or one of our BFF's racks with the same specs). Dual knurl marks offer IPF and IWF spacing for any lift. Centre knurl included. Most short bars skip it. We didn't.

  • FULL BARBELL FUNCTIONALITY

Get the full barbell experience in a small home gym. Dual knurl marks offer IPF and IWF spacing for any lift. Center knurl included. Most short bars skip it. We didn't. 28.5 mm shaft, same diameter as our Utility Bar. Same feel in your hands. Just shorter. Squat in a tight space. Do landmine exercises where you otherwise couldn't. Store it in a Vertical Bar Holder (we see you, basement gym dweller).

  • 900 LB (408 KG) CAPACITY

Everything you expect from a quality Olympic barbell, just shorter. And thanks to its 900-pound capacity, you can still chase that 800-pound deadlift with room to spare. 150,000 PSI tensile strength, matched black zinc, shaft to sleeves, with a Limited Lifetime warranty to back it up.

Product Details

So your home gym space is limited. Tight room. Low ceiling. Half a garage stall. Compact flat. And somehow you're still trying to squeeze in a full 86.5" Olympic bar like it's going to magically shrink at setup time?

Child, please.

This is the bar for the rest of us. 69” (175 cm) of Olympic shaft. 17” (43 cm) saved. 900 lbs / 408 kg of static capacity. And yes — it still RACKS — up to 49 inches inside width. That’s the B.o.S. line-up of 60mm racks, Hydra, and Manticore. Oh, and if you have one of the matching racks from our BFFs, that works too. *sly wink*

Same 28.5 mm shaft as the best-selling Multi-Purpose Utility Bar. 150,000 PSI tensile steel. Black zinc on the shaft, black zinc on the sleeves — one matched finish, end to end. Bushings and snap rings keep the sleeves spinning quiet and predictable.

Dual IPF and IWF knurl marks mean it works for squats, presses, and pulls without picking sides. Centre knurl, too — most short bars skip it. We didn't. Light knurl pressure for daily training (no shredded palms after week one).

4.9 / 5 across the reviews. The most repeated phrase in those reviews is some version of "finally, a bar that fits."

Two-person home gyms. Narrow racks. Basements with low ceilings. Garage gyms that still function as actual garages. This is the bar people put in those spaces.

If rackability isn’t a big deal to you, and you want more sleeve length, check out the Short Utility Bar. It won’t fit on a rack, but it will rack up your PRs on deadlifts. Pair it with our Hydra Trident Station, drop it into a Manticore rig, or hand it to your training partner in the spare room.

We recommend pairing this with steel plates to load more on your bar. Limited Lifetime warranty on the frame if it ever bends from normal use.

    Truly a life saver

The barbell came and genuinely was the exact perfect size to allow me to bench and squat in my narrow gym. The tolerances are tight snd the bar feels excellent and the knurling is excellent. I have nothing negative to say about this bar except find a catchy name for it so its easier to find. Took me some research and I hope other people in a similar situation find this and resolve their space issues with it. I have 74 inches of space and can benchy comfortably if I keep my bar path smooth.

    Perfect light bar

Bought this to go along with my vts lite. Before with my power bar the starting weight was 75lbs which was too heavy of a start for me (140lbs male). This brought the weight down to 60lbs which made my life much easier. Wish the knurling was a tad more sharp but overall good product.

    Hey Duc,

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Short Rackable Barbell! We love hearing that it's helping you dial in those starting weights perfectly. While the knurling is designed to be a bit more moderate, we're stoked that the bar is serving its purpose and making your training more accessible.

    Yours in strength,

    Perfect size, great bar

This bar is awesome for a small home gym. The shorter sleeves are not a problem for me, I'm not strong enough to max them out even with bumper plates. The knurling is definitely on the passive side but in the acceptable range for me. It has good, tight tolerances and a nice even finish. I use mine with a Giant Lifting 2x2 rack and it makes for a great setup. Worth it's price, no doubt.

Thanks a bunch for the fantastic review and the great photos, Chris! We're jazzed to hear that the Short Rackable Barbell fits perfectly into your home gym haven. The passive knurling and the bar's tight tolerances definitely make it a solid choice for many lifters. And hey, with that setup, you're ready to channel some serious gains!
