Ultra-versatile open trap bar with built-in jack to save your back.

Product Features

  • 10+ EXERCISES, 1 BAR

This is one of the most versatile specialty bars you'll ever own. Use it for deadlifts, lunges, bent-over rows, curls, and more! Combine it with resistance bands or lifting chains for even more "fun".

  • SAVES YOUR BACK

For those with sensitive backs, the trap bar deadlift can be a blessing by reducing the stress on your spine. Plus, the built-in jacks make weight plate loading a piece of cake and save you from back fatigue between sets.

  • BUTTERY-SMOOTH REPS

Unlike other brands, we opted for rotating sleeves for this open trap bar. You'll feel that silky-smooth difference, especially when doing accessory exercises, and your joints will thank you later.

Product Details

The Trap Bar often called a Hex Bar, is one of the best specialty bars for building strength and developing power in the deadlift. Our latest in-house designed model has three core benefits that will make training with your new trap bar a dream.

We firmly believe that if it's a barbell, the sleeves should rotate. Unlike almost any other trap bar on the market, our trap bar features rotating sleeves.

This ingenious design offers several benefits over the traditional, closed-frame design. The most important of these being access to far more movements than before. By opening up the front end of the bar, it is now possible to use your trap bar for split squats, Romanian deadlifts, weighted carries, lunges, and more, while still being perfectly balanced for your deadlifts and shrugs.

To keep the bar more compact for both storage and shipping, the sleeves are a little shorter than full-length barbell sleeves; however, the plate block has been made extra thin, allowing for a full seven B.o.S.45lb machined plates to be loaded on each side. Fit even more calibrated plates with a maximum weight of 700lbs.

    Excellent bar

I’ve had this for over a year in my garage, use it regularly, and it is in excellent shape. No rust, the finish and the stand rubber have held up well. The built in jack works great. 2 different handle heights, both knurled. I love this for Romanian deadlifts, but it is very versatile. This holds more weight than I will ever lift, and I have never wanted to rack a hex bar. I could fit 5 of my rubber grip 45s on each sleeve with a spring collar. The smaller size makes storage much easier in my small space. You can see in the photo I hang mine on the wall. If you want to deadlift over 500 with bumpers, or for some reason rack it, then obviously you should get a bigger hex bar.

    Open Trap Bar

I really enjoy using this bar. Its small size fits well in my basement gym, I no longer need a jack to put on the plates, and having two sets of handles gives me options. Pretty comfortable knurling on the handles too.

    Decent for the price

I was looking for an open trap bar with a shorter sleeve that didn’t cost too much and found BOS. At the time the Body Solid / Signature Fitness was selling a similar one, if not the same one for $99. But I decided to go with BOS because they have an actual brand and seem to stand by their quality. Upon receiving the bar, it was well packaged but since the bar was being protected by wood boards to prevent any damage externally, the boards actually rubbed up against the board from the inside so there were scuffs on the black paint on the bar itself. Speaking of the paint on the board, it’s just that and because it’s painted, the kneeling kinda gets lost and smoothed out. That being said, if I had to do it all over again, I would have went with the other brand of open trap bar if it wasn’t for the sleeve length being exactly as stated. Otherwise, BOS customer service is top notch and very responsive both on email and phone.

    Really like

Lots of good things, for me, with this bar. Shorter length is a plus (I don’t have a rack, and have a small space). Open hex is obviously a plus. Weight is a plus. Knurl is a plus. Small footprint is a plus. Able to load plates while bar is standing is a plus. Sizing and geometry is a plus. Quality is a plus. Customer service is a plus. Supporting a Canadian company is a plus.

In the interest of transparency and feedback, there are a couple of things that perhaps could be improved: The double grip: perhaps slightly different angles could benefit future revisions; the top grip rubs into forearm when using the lower grip. The stands: perhaps could be further apart. A balanced bar would be nice, but honestly this is nitpicking.

This bar is excellent value when compared to what is offered by competitors where I feel much gear is highly overpriced. Thanks BOS.

Hey Dean, Thank you for the review! We are happy to hear you love the Olympic Open Trap Bar / Hex Bar. By the sounds of it, it seems like you are using the lower handle while the top handle is up. If you flip the bar around you can use the lower handle without the top handle interfering! Enjoy all the gainz! Yours in strength, William & the BoS crew

    Open Trap Bar

Works great, just a little dissapointed that even though my fitness store didn't show any available online.(2 hours away). I went to their store and found they did actually have the bar and it would have been $50 dollars cheaper from them. I did pick up the slam pads from them though. there a nice addition.
